Dharmasthala : The 12th International Yoga Day was celebrated with grand clinical precision and spiritual fervor at the Amruthavarshini Hall in Dharmasthala on Sunday. Inaugurating the event, Member of Legislative Council (MLC) K. Pratapasimha Nayak hailed yoga as an invaluable gift from ancient Indian culture and heritage to the global community, emphasizing the need for its continued promotion worldwide. He noted that under modern lifestyle conditions, individuals face immense mental and physical stress due to erratic routines and dietary habits, making yoga an essential tool for achieving a peaceful, balanced, and healthy life by regulating the senses. He also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his monumental role in elevating yoga to a celebrated global platform.
Joining the event virtually, Dr. Bhagavan B.C., Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), delivered a motivating message urging citizens to integrate yoga into their daily lives as an inseparable habit. He revealed that over 45,000 students across 400 colleges affiliated with RGUHS are currently practicing yoga regularly. Adding to this, Dr. Shanmukhappa, the In-charge Director of the RGUHS Curriculum Development Centre, commended the exemplary services of the SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Ujire, and the Shantivana Naturopathy Hospital. He proposed that the Ujire college adopt one village every year to systematically train rural populations in yoga. Furthermore, he assured that the university would soon grant approval for the college’s pending request to start postgraduate courses in Anesthesia and Acupuncture.
The celebration, aligning with June 21 being the longest day of the year, featured a spectacular mass yoga demonstration by the participants. Highlighting the ceremony, Bengaluru-based talent Kumari Chinmayi was conferred with the prestigious “Yoga Ratna” award for her outstanding achievements. Providing an overview of their outreach, Dr. Shivaprasada Shetty, Chief Medical Officer of Shantivana Naturopathy Hospital, presented a detailed report on the various yoga camps being conducted across schools, colleges, and rural sectors to foster public health awareness. The formal program commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Prashanth Shetty, Principal of SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Vice Principal Dr. Sujata K.J., while Dr. Ananya efficiently anchored the proceedings.
