Mangaluru : In a significant move to foster brotherhood and spiritual togetherness, an Ecumenical Kannada Prayer Service was successfully organized at the historic Rosario Cathedral in Bolar. This collaborative spiritual gathering brought together the congregations of Rosario Cathedral, CSI Kanthi Church (Jeppu), and CSI St. Paul’s Church (Mangalore). The event served as a platform for different Christian denominations to pray in unison, emphasizing their shared values and the importance of communal harmony in the region.
The ceremony was formally inaugurated with the lighting of a traditional lamp, a gesture symbolizing the light of faith and the collective commitment to unity. Fr. Valerian D’Souza, the Parish Priest of Rosario Cathedral, welcomed the attendees and led the prayer service. He was joined in the spiritual leadership by Pastor Gabriel Ronith of CSI Kanthi Church, Rev. Binu C. John of CSI St. Paul’s Church, and Fr. Valerian Fernandes. The use of Kannada for the service highlighted the cultural bond shared by the local faithful across different church traditions.
The event saw active participation from prominent lay leaders and council members of all three participating churches. Notable attendees included Mr. Cyril Rosario (Vice President, Rosario Parish Council), Mrs. Ida Furtado (Secretary), and Mr. Aldrin Vaz (Coordinator). Mrs. Mary A. D’Souza, the Convenor of the Commission for Ecumenism, played a key role in coordinating the service. The presence of numerous Parish Pastoral Council members from across the city underlined the community’s dedication to building bridges and maintaining a peaceful, collaborative environment among the various Christian traditions in Mangaluru.
