Mangaluru : The Saint Poet Sarvajna Jayanti was observed with great reverence at the Government Women’s Polytechnic in Bondel, Mangaluru. The event was organized by the District Administration and Zilla Panchayat in association with the Department of Kannada and Culture, with support from the Karnataka State Kumbarara Maha Sabha (Coastal Division) and the D.K. District Kulala-Kumbara Youth Forum. The celebration commenced with guests paying floral tributes to the statue of the legendary poet at the Sarvajna Circle in Bondel, symbolizing the enduring legacy of his wisdom in the region.
During the formal stage program, Principal Gunavantha V. Gunagi inaugurated the session and urged students to aspire to become the “Sarvajnas of the Kali Yuga” by pursuing deep knowledge and wisdom. He noted that the students of the polytechnic are fortunate to witness the poet’s statue daily and expressed hope that the philosopher-poet’s famous tripadis (three-line stanzas) would inspire them to lead meaningful lives. The program highlighted the importance of integrating traditional moral values with modern education to create a well-rounded society.
Guest lecturer and retired teacher Mahabala Kulal provided deep insights into the poet’s life, describing Sarvajna as a visionary who used the simplicity of three lines to mirror the complexities and flaws of society. He emphasized that the poet’s writings are a vast treasury of knowledge, capturing profound life truths in accessible language. The event also served as a platform to recognize academic excellence, as high-achieving students from the polytechnic’s semester exams and talented youth from the Kulala community were felicitated. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a successful tribute to one of Karnataka’s most iconic literary figures.
