Mangaluru : A large number of supporters from Dakshina Kannada are set to participate in the “BSY Abhimanotsava” (Fans’ Festival) scheduled for May 9th in Chitradurga, marking the completion of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s 50 golden years in political life. Addressing a press conference at the Ullal Press Club in Thokkottu, Jagadish Alva Kuvethabail, President of the BJP Mangaluru Mandal, hailed Yediyurappa as a towering figure in Karnataka politics. He emphasized that the growth of the BJP in the state under Yediyurappa’s leadership was a remarkable feat, noting that his life has been entirely dedicated to party organization and public service. He urged beneficiaries of various schemes introduced during Yediyurappa’s tenure to attend the event and express their gratitude.
Highlighting the former Chief Minister’s contributions, BJP District Vice President K. Ravindra Shetty Ulidottu stated that Yediyurappa was instrumental in taking the party from urban centers to rural heartlands, becoming the voice of the farmers and the oppressed. He recalled Yediyurappa’s fierce advocacy during the Bagar Hukum struggle, where he famously protested on one leg in the Assembly against the then-ruling government to fight for the rights of the landless. Shetty described him as an “Ajatashatru” (a leader with no enemies) who successfully united various leaders to build a formidable party structure in Karnataka.
The leaders further lauded specific initiatives like the Bhagyalakshmi scheme, which transformed the lives of countless girl children, and the establishment of the Development Corporation for nomadic communities, which had been previously ignored. They also noted his significant contributions to the coastal region, including granting cabinet status to the Coastal Development Authority and providing massive grants for the development of the Mangaluru City Corporation. BJP District Secretary Dhanalakshmi Gatti and General Secretaries Mohan Raj K.R. and Dayananda Thokkottu were also present at the press meet to show their support for the upcoming mega event.
