Ullal: A tense situation unfolded in Ullal on Thursday night after a massive fish oil leak from a transporting canter led to several road accidents. The vehicle, which was carrying oil from a fish meal factory in Kotepura toward the Mangaluru port, suffered a technical snag, causing oil to spill across the stretch from Abbakka Circle to Ullal Bail. The slippery road conditions resulted in numerous two-wheeler riders losing control and crashing, leading to several injuries. Infuriated by the negligence, local residents intercepted the canter at Ullal Bail and staged a protest, demanding immediate accountability for the safety hazard.
In response to the incident, Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker and local MLA U.T. Khader took serious note of the situation and directed the Mangaluru Police Commissioner to initiate strict legal action against those responsible. He emphasized that while he supports industrial growth and the development of fish meal factories, such progress cannot come at the cost of public safety. The Speaker expressed his firm stance that any inconvenience or danger posed to the common man due to industrial negligence is unacceptable and must be addressed with administrative severity.
Furthermore, U.T. Khader demanded that the owners of the concerned fish meal factory provide adequate compensation to the injured two-wheeler riders who suffered due to the spill. He issued a stern warning to factory owners to ensure that such hazardous incidents do not recur, stressing the need for better maintenance of transport vehicles. Local authorities have been instructed to maintain vigilance and implement safety protocols to prevent technical failures that put the lives of commuters at risk on public roads.
