Mangaluru : Following heavy rainfall forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has declared a holiday on Friday, July 24, 2026, for educational institutions across the district as a precautionary measure.
The holiday applies to all Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, Pre-University (PU) colleges up to 12th standard, as well as ITI and Diploma colleges, including all residential campuses. District authorities warned that strict legal action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, will be initiated against any institution violating this directive.
In light of the inclement weather, parents have been advised to ensure children stay away from low-lying flooded areas, lakes, riverbanks, and beaches. Fishermen and tourists have also been strictly instructed not to venture into the sea or approach water bodies. District and taluk-level officials have been directed to remain at their headquarters to address public grievances immediately and coordinate with the control room. Relief centers across all taluks are kept on high alert to handle any natural disaster emergencies.
