Udupi : Karnataka has achieved a remarkable milestone in the National Panchayat Awards 2025, emerging as the top-performing state in the country. Out of 42 Gram Panchayats selected nationwide for various categories, six are from Karnataka, marking the highest tally for any single state. In a stunning display of local administrative excellence, five of these six award-winning panchayats belong to Udupi district alone, cementing its reputation as a model for rural self-governance and development.
The award list highlights significant achievements across diverse sectors. Mudradi Gram Panchayat in Hebri, Udupi, secured the prestigious first rank in the ‘Poverty-Free and Enhanced Livelihoods’ category, winning a cash prize of ₹1 crore. In the ‘Healthy Panchayat’ and ‘Water Sufficient Panchayat’ categories, Vandse (Kundapura) and Madamakki (Hebri) clinched the second spots respectively, each receiving ₹75 lakh. Halanayakanahalli in Bengaluru Urban also secured a second-place finish in the ‘Child-Friendly Panchayat’ category with a ₹75 lakh prize. Additionally, Sanoor (Karkala) and Hakladi (Kundapura) earned third-place honors in ‘Self-Sufficient Infrastructure’ and ‘Socially Just and Secured Panchayat’ categories, receiving ₹25 lakh each.
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Priyank Kharge, lauded the winners for their dedicated service and innovative development works. He noted that the state’s dominance on the national stage is a matter of immense pride. The Minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to the elected representatives, officials, and staff of these six panchayats, emphasizing that their commitment to grassroots progress has brought great honor to Karnataka and serves as an inspiration for local bodies across the nation.
