Kundapura : Child rights activist, social worker, and Kannada lecturer Ramanji Nammabhoomi held a day-long solo silent protest at Shastri Circle in Kundapura on Saturday, advocating for global peace. Expressing deep concern over the rising threats of war fueled by bureaucratic mindsets, he highlighted how thousands of innocent lives, including children and youth, are being lost globally. Ramanji emphasized that beyond the human toll, war inflicts fatal damage on the environment, prompting him to undertake this second phase of his silent demonstration to draw attention to these critical issues.
The protest featured a poignant symbolic element—a clay statue of a child—to represent the severe impact of armed conflicts on the younger generation. Ramanji urged society to unite in the fight for peace and protect children from the devastating consequences of war. Before commencing his sit-in from 8 AM to 6 PM, he offered a floral tribute to the statue of Lal Bahadur Shastri and observed a moment of silence to honor those who have died in recent wars.
The demonstration received notable support, including a visit from former Member of Parliament K. Jayaprakash Hegde, who expressed solidarity with Ramanji’s cause. The protest site was adorned with slogans such as “Let us pray for world peace,” “Compassion is the root of religion,” and the metaphorical “Let sparrows build nests in the barrels of guns.” The silent appeal resonated with the local public, serving as a reminder of the urgent need for global harmony.
