Udupi : The hundi counting process at the famous Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple, known as one of the wealthiest shrines in Karnataka, was conducted on Monday. A total of 41 offering boxes were opened for tabulation, revealing an immense influx of donations contributed by devotees during the month of May.
According to official temple sources, the cash collected directly from the hundis amounted to a substantial ₹1,90,43,819. When merged with other miscellaneous religious offerings, the total revenue generated for the month scaled up to ₹1,94,44,173. Beyond the monetary contributions, the boxes yielded precious metals gifted by pilgrims, totaling 0.325 grams of gold and 2.370 kilograms of silver.
The meticulous counting process was carried out under strict security protocols and in the direct presence of senior temple administrative officials. The temple continues to witness a steady surge in donations, fueled by thousands of devotees visiting from various parts of Karnataka as well as neighbouring states. Following Kukke Subrahmanya, Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple holds the distinction of being recognized as the second richest temple in the state.
