Mangaluru : Following reports of contaminated water supply that caused illness among several residents in parts of Mangaluru city, an emergency public grievance meeting was convened under the leadership of Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath. Held at the Ramakrishna Bhajana Mandira premises in the Nodu Battagudde area of Bejai (Ward 31), the high-level meeting brought together aggrieved local citizens and senior officials from the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to address the crisis immediately.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Vedavyas Kamath stated that he rushed to the spot with technical experts after receiving grave complaints that drainage water had seeped into the drinking water pipeline supplying the lower layout of Nodu Battagudde. He reassured the public that municipal engineers have been testing water samples directly from household taps three to four times a day since yesterday. The latest test results, validated in the presence of the residents, confirm that the current water supply has returned to safe, potable standards. Consequently, the MLA instructed all households and apartment complexes in the vicinity to completely drain their existing overhead and underground storage tanks to refill them with fresh, clean water. He urged citizens to immediately report any lingering doubts regarding water quality to his office or directly to civic officials.
Emphasizing that public health is paramount, Kamath asserted that there would be absolutely no compromise when it comes to safe drinking water. He issued strict directives to the civic body’s engineering wing to conduct door-to-door inspections over the next few days to monitor the situation continuously and implement permanent preventive measures. The emergency session saw the active participation of local community leaders including Prashanth Alva, Narayan, Santhosh Ullal, Rajesh Kini, and Deepika Manoj, alongside senior administrative and technical officials such as MCC Assistant Executive Engineers (AEE) Nagaraj and Shivalingiah, KUIDFC officials Suresh and Khader, and KUDCEMP representatives Richard and Jayaprakash.
