Mangaluru : The monsoon fury has intensified across Dakshina Kannada district, prompting a ‘Red Alert’ in accordance with forecasts from the Indian Meteorological Department and the State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre. As heavy downpours are projected to persist over the coming days, the District Disaster Management Authority has issued an emergency order as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the public and students.
Under this directive, the District Commissioner has declared a complete holiday on Thursday, July 2, 2026, for all educational institutions up to the 12th standard. This closure applies to all anganwadi centres, primary and high schools, as well as government, aided, and private educational setups, including pre-university colleges. This proactive step has been taken to mitigate risks associated with potential flood-like situations arising from the torrential rain.
Given the severity of the weather, the district administration has earnestly requested parents to keep a strict vigil over their children. They must ensure that youngsters do not venture near waterlogged low-lying areas, lakes, riverbanks, or sea beaches under any circumstances. Simultaneously, with the sea turning extremely rough, a stern warning has been issued to fishermen prohibiting them from venturing into the waters, while tourists and the general public are completely banned from visiting riverside and coastal tourist destinations.
To efficiently tackle any impending emergencies, all high-ranking officials at both district and taluk levels have been strictly ordered to remain stationed at their respective headquarters. They are mandated to respond swiftly to public grievances and maintain constant coordination with the District Commissioner’s office control room. Furthermore, departmental officers have been instructed to immediately open care centres (rehabilitation centres) in every taluk and keep them fully operational, allowing citizens to contact the district administration’s official helpline numbers for any urgent assistance.
