Mangaluru : Ullas K.T., the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, emphasized that India’s rapid technological advancement necessitates a corresponding evolution in society. Speaking at the inauguration of National Technology Day 2026 at Vivekananda College of Engineering in Puttur, he highlighted that technology plays a pivotal role in the country’s development. He urged the youth to move beyond basic usage and delve into deep research and new inventions, noting that engaging in constructive technological activities will significantly enhance their career prospects and professional growth.
Adding to the discussion, Dr. Shreesha Bhat, head of Akanksha Charitable Trust and the resource person for the event, pointed out that the daily use of gadgets should not be mistaken for true technological learning. He stressed that for India to compete effectively on the global stage against foreign nations, Indian youth must prioritize research-oriented education. He noted that the field of research currently offers vast and lucrative opportunities for those willing to innovate, which is essential for maintaining India’s competitive edge in the international market.
Presiding over the function, Dr. Mahesh Prasanna K., Principal of Vivekananda College of Engineering, discussed the economic impact of technology, stating that its widespread adoption is a major driver of GDP growth. He specifically mentioned that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently accelerating work processes across all sectors. Contrary to fears of job displacement, he expressed confidence that AI will actually facilitate the creation of numerous new employment opportunities. The event, organized in collaboration with Mera Yuva Bharat, NSS, and Lakshmi Yuva Foundation, saw active participation from faculty and students, concluding with a call to action for young engineers to lead the nation’s digital future.
