Mangaluru: Belthangady police reportedly visited the house of activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody on Friday, with a notice asking him to come to the police station on Sept 21.
Belthangady police had registered a case against Thimarody under various sections of the Arms Act following a complaint by the investigating officer of Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the alleged Dharmasthala mass burial case. The SIT reportedly recovered a firearm and two swords from Thimarody’s house.
Sources said police pasted a notice on the wall of his house, directing him to appear for an inquiry. Thimarody was reportedly not at home when the police visited.
It is said the police directed the activist to produce the firearm licence. The search was conducted at Thimarody’s house after the complainant in the mass burial case, N Chinnayya, was arrested by police.
Meanwhile, the SIT, as part of its ongoing investigation, reportedly questioned a former president and a vice-president of a gram panchayat in connection with statements given to the media. The SIT, which combed Banglegudda forest area for two days, recovered about seven skulls, which are suspected to be those of men.
