Brahmavar: In a significant move to curb environmental exploitation, the Brahmavar police conducted coordinated raids across multiple locations, seizing 17 boats allegedly used for illegal sand mining. The operation targeted specific points along the riverbeds where unauthorized extraction activities were reported to be rampant.
Coordinated Raids at Havanje and Ulloor Acting on precise intelligence regarding illegal mining activities, the police teams descended upon the Swarna riverbank near Muggeri in Havanje village and the Ammunje area of Ulloor village. During the sudden inspection, authorities found 17 boats equipped for sand dredging and transport. These vessels were immediately confiscated as they were being operated without valid permits from the Department of Mines and Geology.
High-Level Leadership and Execution The operation was executed under the direct instructions of Udupi District Superintendent of Police (SP) Hariram Shankar. The raid was meticulously planned and guided by Additional SP Sudhakara S. Naik, DySP Prabhu D.T., and Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna. The ground execution was led by Brahmavar Sub-Inspectors Ashok Malabagi and Sudarshan Dodamani, along with a dedicated team of station personnel.
Commitment to Environmental Protection This raid sends a strong message to the local sand mafia operating in the coastal districts. Officials stated that such operations will continue to protect the river ecosystems from depletion. The seized boats have been moved to a secure location, and further legal proceedings are being initiated against the owners of the vessels and the organizers of the illegal trade.
