Mangaluru : Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has assured that the state government will provide all necessary support and infrastructure to those coming forward to invest in the tourism sector. Speaking after inaugurating the ‘Coastal Karnataka Tourism Conclave-2026’ at Hotel Avatara in Mangaluru on January 10, the CM highlighted the signing of several Letters of Intent (LoI) for investment, emphasizing that the government is eager to assist those contributing to the state’s growth.
The Chief Minister noted that the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada hold immense untapped potential for tourism. He pointed out that while Karnataka possesses a vast 320-kilometer coastline, it has not been utilized effectively until now. To address this, the government has introduced a comprehensive Tourism Policy for 2024–29. He also praised the contribution of the coastal region to the state’s economy, noting that Karnataka ranks second only to Maharashtra in GST collection, with Mangaluru being a major contributor after Bengaluru.
Addressing the local workforce, the CM expressed concern that while people from across the world come to Mangaluru for education, locals often migrate to Gulf countries for employment. He urged entrepreneurs to establish local businesses and hotels—praising Prakash Shetty’s initiative for a new five-star hotel—to create jobs within the region. He emphasized that for tourism to flourish, maintaining law and order and a peaceful social atmosphere is non-negotiable, quoting Kuvempu’s vision of Karnataka as a “garden of peace for all communities.”
The event saw the participation of several high-profile leaders, including Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, and District In-charge Ministers Dinesh Gundu Rao, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, and Mankala Vaidya, among other legislators and former ministers.
