Mangaluru : Sujit Madur, a member of the Kotekar Town Panchayat, has been expelled from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for a period of six years following allegations of persistent anti-party activities. The official order was issued by BJP District President Satish Kumpala on February 19, stating that the suspension comes into immediate effect. The decision follows a series of incidents where Madur publicly challenged his own party’s administration regarding the distribution of land sites to the homeless poor within the town limits, an issue that has remained unresolved for nearly 15 years.
Although the BJP secured power in the Kotekar Town Panchayat for the second consecutive term last August, Madur had become a vocal critic of the administration’s perceived failure to address pending applications from landless residents. He frequently raised his voice against the negligence of officials during monthly general body meetings. The situation escalated during a meeting held on January 29, when Madur expressed his outrage over the lack of progress on these land grants. In a notable act of defiance, he joined the opposition members in the well of the house to protest, even shouting slogans against the Tahsildar and Village Accountant.
The news of his expulsion began circulating on social media platforms shortly after the order was signed and officially reached Sujit Madur this afternoon. While the party leadership views his actions as a breach of discipline and anti-party behavior, Madur’s supporters point to his consistent advocacy for the rights of the underprivileged as the root cause of the friction. This development marks a significant shift in the local political landscape of Ullal, highlighting internal tensions within the ruling party over administrative accountability and public welfare issues.
