Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament, Captain Brijesh Chowta, organized the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ conference in Mangaluru to discuss the historic ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’—a landmark legislation by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government aimed at providing political reservation for women. During the event, the MP engaged in a special dialogue with women representing various sectors, including medicine, education, business, sports, and journalism, as well as representatives from the fishing and labor communities. Captain Chowta assured the participants that the overwhelming support, joy, and gratitude expressed during the session would be personally conveyed to the Prime Minister.
The primary objective of the conference was to gauge the sentiments and opinions of women regarding the revolutionary changes this Act is set to bring to their political representation and overall quality of life. Participants enthusiastically shared their views, hailing the Act as a long-awaited step toward genuine empowerment. Many noted that while women’s reservation had been a subject of debate for decades, it was the decisive leadership of PM Modi that finally transformed the vision into a reality, laying a strong foundation for women to serve the nation through active political participation.
The attendees expressed immense pride in the government’s initiative, describing the implementation of the Act as a golden chapter in the history of Indian democracy. They highlighted that overcoming previous hurdles to pass this legislation demonstrates a profound commitment to gender equality. As a unique feature of the conference, arrangements were made for the participants to share their thoughts directly with the Prime Minister by writing on postcards. Captain Chowta emphasized that he would continue to be a voice for these aspirations and commendations within the Parliament.
