Mangaluru : In a significant response to the state government’s 50% concession on pending traffic fines, vehicle users in Mangaluru have successfully cleared a total of 35,160 pending traffic violation cases. City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy confirmed that this special drive has generated a substantial revenue of ₹92.43 lakh in penalty collections for the department.
Following government directives, the half-price waiver window was operational from June 21 to July 10. To facilitate citizens in settling long-pending citations seamlessly, the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate had organized a dedicated drive during this stipulated timeline.
Motorists actively utilized online payment modes and also visited various traffic police stations physically to resolve their pending violations. Consequently, an aggregate fine amount of ₹92,43,400 was remitted to officially close these cases. Out of the total cleared infractions, 18,792 violations were captured through automated Artificial Intelligence (AI) surveillance cameras, while the remaining 16,368 cases were booked manually by personnel deployed on field duty.
Simultaneously, intensifying their crackdown on reckless driving to ensure better road safety, the city police took stringent action against 224 motorists implicated in severe road mishaps and critical traffic law breaches during 2026. The Driving Licenses (DL) of these errant drivers have been confiscated and forwarded to the respective Regional Transport Offices (RTO) with recommendations for suspension. Among these, the transport authorities have already suspended 137 licenses, while the legal procedure to suspend the remaining ones is currently underway.
