Mngaluru : The Karnataka State Cabinet has granted administrative approval for an estimated ₹13 crore to develop the state highway connecting Guruvayanakere and Uppinangadi. This decision was finalized during a cabinet meeting held on Thursday at Vidhana Soudha. This specific stretch of highway is characterized by its hilly terrain, steep slopes, and sharp curves, making it a critical yet challenging route. It serves as a vital link for commuters traveling toward Bengaluru and the district center, as well as providing essential access to major religious sites such as Dharmasthala, Venur, the Sahasralingeshwara Temple in Uppinangadi, and the Mahalingeshwara Temple in Puttur.
While a 9.50 km section of the road has already been converted into a four-lane highway, the newly approved funds will facilitate further expansion. According to the proposal submitted to the state government, the project includes the construction of an additional 1.270 km of four-lane roadway, the building of retaining walls and RCC drains in select areas, and coverage for land acquisition costs. Following the cabinet’s approval of the ₹13 crore expenditure, District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for fulfilling the long-standing demand to upgrade this major connectivity route in the district.
