Mangaluru : The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll commenced across Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a rigorous voter list update process. As part of the initial phase, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across all 1,876 polling stations in the district initiated a comprehensive door-to-door campaign. The officials began visiting voters at their doorsteps to distribute the official enumeration forms, ensuring direct engagement with the local populace.
To monitor the ground-level execution of the drive, Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. personally visited several polling stations in Mangaluru city on Tuesday. During his visit, the DC interacted with citizens, distributed enumeration forms, and thoroughly inspected the ongoing Special Intensive Revision procedures at various booths. He was accompanied during this inspection by Additional Deputy Commissioner Raju K.
Senior administration officials also fanned out across different parts of the district to review the house-to-house verification process. Notably, teams visited the residences of prominent personalities, including Rajya Sabha MP Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade and former Union Minister B. Janardhana Poojary, to hand over the enumeration forms. Special emphasis was laid on personally visiting senior citizens to facilitate their smooth participation in the exercise.
To assist citizens in this process, the enumeration forms are being provided in duplicate. Voters are required to fill in the necessary details, retain one copy for their records, and return the second copy to their respective BLOs. To guide residents in filling out these forms and updating details from the 2002 electoral roll, a dedicated Voter Facilitation Center has been set up at every single polling station. Dakshina Kannada district currently accounts for a total of 18,05,189 registered voters.
With an aim to ensure absolute transparency and encourage active participation, the district administration has directed all recognized political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for every polling station. The core objective of this Special Intensive Revision is to guarantee that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll, while simultaneously ensuring that no ineligible person finds a place on the list. The district administration has appealed to all citizens to extend their full cooperation to the booth-level officers during their verification visits.
The printed enumeration forms already contain existing details of the voters, including their name, polling booth number, and Assembly constituency. However, if a voter’s photograph in the current database is outdated, they have been given the provision to submit a fresh passport-sized photograph along with the form. To systematize tracking, purple stickers are being affixed to houses where enumeration forms have been successfully received, while red stickers are being placed on homes that are found locked.
The intensive door-to-door campaign which commenced on Tuesday will run continuously until July 29. Following the compilation of this data, the draft electoral roll will be officially published on August 5. Citizens will then have a month-long window, from August 5 to September 4, to file any claims, corrections, or objections. After resolving all entries, the final, updated electoral roll for the district will be formally published on October 7.
