Puttur : In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Puttur Rural police seized over 106 kg of ganja during a high-stakes operation on Monday evening, January 19. Acting on a precise tip-off regarding the illegal transport of contraband, a police team intercepted a car and an Ashok Leyland goods vehicle at Sajankadi in Paduvannoor village. The swift action by the authorities led to the recovery of 106 kg and 60 grams of ganja, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 53,03,000 in the illicit market.
During the inspection, the police detained two individuals, both residents of Charmadi village in Beltangady taluk. The driver of the car was identified as 37-year-old Rafiq P, while the driver of the goods vehicle was identified as 37-year-old Abdul Sadiq. A search of the goods vehicle uncovered 73 neatly packed bundles of ganja. Preliminary interrogations revealed that the accused were transporting the massive consignment for sale across Kerala, Mangaluru, and various other regions of the Dakshina Kannada district.
The police have confiscated the vehicles used in the crime, along with two mobile phones belonging to the accused. A case has been officially registered at the Puttur Rural police station under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The successful operation was executed by a dedicated team led by Sub-Inspector Gunapala J, supported by several staff members, and further investigations are currently underway to trace the wider network involved in this drug syndicate.
