Mangaluru : In view of the heavy rainfall across Dakshina Kannada district and the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department, a red alert has been declared in the district. Consequently, the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has issued crucial emergency orders as a precautionary measure.
As per the directives of the authority, all Anganwadi centers, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, as well as pre-university colleges (up to 12th grade) in Dakshina Kannada district, have been granted a holiday on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. It has been warned that any violation of this order will attract strict legal action under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
Parents have been advised to keep a close watch on children, ensuring they do not venture near low-lying areas, rivers, lakes, or beaches during this period. Fishermen have been restricted from venturing into the sea, and tourists as well as the general public have been instructed not to visit reservoirs, rivers, or seashores. All district and taluk-level officials are required to remain at their headquarters and actively participate in disaster management duties, ensuring they remain in constant contact with the Deputy Commissioner’s control room to address public grievances immediately.
